Globally exponentially stable observer for vision-based range estimation

چکیده
A reduced-order nonlinear observer is developed to estimate the distance from a moving camera to a feature point on a static object (i.e., range identification), where full velocity and linear acceleration feedback of the calibrated camera is provided. The contribution of this work is to develop a global exponential range observer which can be used for a larger set of camera motions than existing observers. The observer is shown to be robust against external disturbances in the sense that the observer is Lp8p 2 1⁄21;1 stable even if the target object is moving or the camera motion is perturbed. The presented observer identifies the range provided an observability condition commonly used in literature is satisfied and is shown to be exponentially stable even if camera motion satisfies a less restrictive observability condition. A sufficient condition on the observer gain is derived to prove stability using a Lyapunov-based analysis. Experimental results are provided to show robust performance of the observer using an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A nonlinear observer for estimation of the longitudinal velocity, lateral velocity, and yaw rate of a vehicle, designed for the purpose of vehicle side-slip estimation, is modified and extended in order to work for different road surface conditions. The observer relies on a road-tire friction model and is therefore sensitive to changes in the adhesion characteristics of the road surface. The fr...
متن کاملGlobally exponentially stable attitude and gyro bias estimation with application to GNSS/INS integration
This paper deals with the construction of nonlinear observers for navigation purposes. We first present a globally exponentially stable observer for attitude and gyro bias, based on gyro measurements and two or more pairs of vector measurements. We avoid the well-known topological obstructions to global stability by not confining the attitude estimate to SO(3), but rather estimating a full rota...
متن کاملGlobal complete observability and output-to-state stability imply the existence of a globally convergent observer
In this paper we consider systems which are globally completly observable and output-to-state stable. The former property guarantees the existence of coordinates such that the dynamics can be expressed in observability form. The latter property guarantees the existence of a state norm observer and therefore nonlinearities bounding function and local Lipschitz bound. Both allow us to build an ob...
متن کاملGES Attitude Observers - Part I: Multiple General Vector Observations
Abstract: This paper proposes a set of observers for attitude estimation based on multiple general time-varying reference vectors, in inertial coordinates, and corresponding vectors, in body-fixed coordinates, in addition to angular velocity readings. The observer error dynamics are globally exponentially stable (GES) and problems such as singularities, unwinding phenomena, or topological limit...
متن کاملA Robust Adaptive Observer-Based Time Varying Fault Estimation
This paper presents a new observer design methodology for a time varying actuator fault estimation. A new linear matrix inequality (LMI) design algorithm is developed to tackle the limitations (e.g. equality constraint and robustness problems) of the well known so called fast adaptive fault estimation observer (FAFE). The FAFE is capable of estimating a wide range of time-varying actuator fault...
